i love lipstick and mac really is the best, they have an amazing range of great colours, lots of formulas, they go on great, last, even smell of vanilla (but aren't too strong at all). they do have lots of really bold colours, but don't let that turn you off, there are lots that suit a more natural look, it's just the bold ones are the ones you notice straight off.

and for matte, mac actually have a good range, unlike many other brands, and they certainly aren't too dry. they also have varying degrees of mattness.

one of my favourite things to do is go to mac and spend an hour trying on lipsticks, i have about 12 of them i use regularly. i've tried other brands, but they just aren't as good, the colours aren't as pure, and it's almost impossible to fine a good range when you don't want shimmer or glitter in your lipstick. most of all other brands don't feel as good on your lips.
Clinique is a little expensive but it has wonderful lipsticks with shades that give full-color coverage with one application, while the creamy texture feels very comfortable. It's worthy!
I also love mac great moisturizer and long lasting wear.

Any product regardless of the name brand will dry out your lips or make them addicted so to speak even lip balm If they have mineral oil in them. Go to www.thewayback.myarbonne.com and look under shop online Arbonne make-up is certified vegan and is the only make-up endorsed by the American Modeling Association. and most importantly no mineral oil and no wax to seal your lips. the natural oils allow them to breathe. The color stays true because they are true pigments. No lead or animal by products or fragrance completely botanically based. The colors are truly beautiful! and they go on so well.
Put on vaseline (petroleum jelly) on your lips first, or lip balm. Since you don't want a glossy look, let it dry a little bit. Then put on the lipstick, and your lips will be protected, and it will stay on longer!
Dior has some great reds they are not all glossy, they stay on and the colors are lovely.

Also, I like Lancome Rouge Absolu the old formula - you can still get it on a bargain from Ebay.
There's this new stuff from Maybelline called Superstay Lip Color. The color dries on your lips so it's kind of like a second layer of skin. It doesn't even feel like you're wearing lipstick and you just put the conditioning balm that comes with it on which moisturizes your lips at the same time. They have a ton of colors and it stays on for the whole day. All you have to do is put on more of the conditioning balm or you could even use chapstick.

Try putting some Burt's beeswax, Kissed By a Bee or Carmex lip balm on before you apply lipstick.

Also, to get your lips soft, get an electric toothbrush and brush your lips with it((just let it do all the work while you hold it)) and then apply any of the lip balms I just listed. It makes them sooo soft :]
i have this red lip stick that is the fifties style and its from NARS and i love it!! it doesnt dry my lips out and it lasts a heck of a long time...try it!!
MAC!!!! They are the authority on matte red lipsticks. Think Gwen Stefani. I am not sure which color she wears exactly, but they have enough shades to go with all skintones.

The matte lipcolors aren't shiny or glossy and stay on for hours. No lie! MAC cosmetics are highly pigmented and are great for playing around.

You say that your lips are chapped, you should try a good lip treatment (I like Fresh's Sugar lip balm, but its $22). The bottom line is that no lipcolor will stay on flaky lips.

You can find MAC at Macy's, Bloomingdale's, and they also have free standing stores. When you go ask the artists for help picking the right shade for you. You also might want a lipliner to match!

i personally don't wear lipstick or concealer. but for eyeliner one of my fav brands now are the rimmel london waterproof eye definer (im not sure if thats the exact name but its by rimmel and its waterproof) also for foundation (i use liquid) i have used alot and i suggest the covergirl TRUblend. its awsume. then for compact powder i suggest anything by lancome paris(i know its expensive but it works wonders) then two different mascaras would be Maybelline new yorks the colossal volume express it works really well at giving you alot of extra length that most others won't. and covergirls lashblast hydrofuge it works great on making the lashs thicker. and then a tip i have would be if you get her both of the mascaras tell her to use the yellow one (maybelline) first then put the orange one( covergirl) on right after it! :) good luck!Which is the best brand for lipstick, eyeliner,foundation, concealer,mascara, compact powder.?
Cover up - i like bare minerals.... but if you want something alil cheaper try cover girl true match. its in a round silver compact it comes with a mirror and pad on one side and the cover up on the other.

Eyliner - i like H.i.p i think its by loreal.

Concealer - i like urban decay

Mascara - i like covergirl

Lipstick - i use H.i.p lipgloss or OPI lipgloss

Eyeshadow - i like MAC and h.i.p and victorias secrect sells some okay eyeshadow to.

Personally I prefer MAC because of the professional quality. All of their products are amazing and really live up to their word. Plus they don't test on animals and they have a recycling program. It is pricier than drugstore makeup but most definitely worth the price.

In my 40'odd years, I've never met a lipstick item that lasts more than an hour or so, and doesn't feel all gummy and gross. I know there are those 2 step ones with the base color and then you put the clear stuff over it, but they're too heavy and sticky for me.

Your best bet might be something like Bert's Bee's Lip Shimmer lip balms. They're really gorgeous and glowy and the tube is really skinny. I use the one in Watermelon (that's just the color - it doesn't taste or smell like watermelon), which is a deep pink with some shimmer. You can keep it in your bag or your pocket and put it on whenever. If you need more definition, use a pencil with it.

If you really have to have lipstick, I love Clinique's High Impact Lipstick in Pure Posh. It's a shimmery golden bronzy pinkish color that just rocks my mouth. It costs $14, but it's SO worth it. It's not super-duper long wearing, but it has no perfume or taste, and if you look fantastic, so what if you hafta apply once or twice during the evening.

That Covergirl TruShine. It's pretty awesome. People who have never used the product will say that it is waxy. But it's not at all. It's very flattering and it felt really comfortable to me.

I would recommend Clinique Long Last Soft Matte Lipstick. I think it's exactly what you are looking for . It's not glossy at all but is very comfortable and not to dramatic. The colors are really beautiful. I have to tell you that it cost 22 dollars and that is pretty hefty for a lipstick. I have not been a lipstick-wearer for all my life, mostly because I have never found a brand that stays on and looks good without feeling waxy or cakey.

I had that same problem for a long time as well. I recently found one that works great though. It's called Revlon Color Stay and is the two in one with lip gloss. The reason I like it so much is because if you smear the lipstick while applying it, it is easily wiped off. But once you apply the gloss over it, it is there to stay without smuding, or caking or only half of it staying on. I love it. DIfferent lipsticks work better for different people. If you know someone who sells Avon they have many different formulas and different colors. I have tried Mary Kay but it makes my lips very dry, however if you decide you do not like the lipstick you can get a no hassle money back thing (very nice), their lipstick primer does work well to keep it from feathering but you will still get a heavy lipstick feeling.
Burt's Bees lip shimmer (some colors are more matte), goes on smooth and stays like that and they are also all-natural, they look great with a gloss on them (like C.O. Bigelow mentha libshine).

Or Mary Kay lipsticksare great. Mary Kay also has a ';lip primer'; that you put under the lipsick so that it doesn't feather/bleed. With a little gloss over the lipstick, it looks great and lasts.

I use the CoverGirl long lasting lipstick. It's the stuff that stays on for 8+ hours and it really does work.

It's like a dye for your lips... it works great. It comes with the color and then a stick of just clear lip gloss. Once you put it on, it looks amazing and stays that way! You only have to put on more gloss if you lick it off or something. But the color never comes off.

The best you can do is buy the Avon Lip Exfoliator and use it 3-4 times a week but if you're lips are cracked you better put some Vaseline at bedtime and when you take a warm shower that work on moisture your lips. Avon lipstick is great but you better change to lip balm (colored if you want) and then lip gloss because if you just apply lip gloss on dry/cracked lips is gonna look awful. Not a good advice from Mojozozo. So do that and you'll see good results. Try Avon Flavor Savers (any) and then apply the lip gloss you like the most. mark for wxample are minty flavor and wear just perfect. Before I forget there is an Avon Soft Repair Lip Gloss that worked good on a customer with very dry lips. Choose what is best for you and very good luck!

Almay, Lancome, Mary Kay, and I MUST say that Olay has a great mixture of colours that are great and soft.....please line your lips first..and then....put on the lipstick. There is one more trick....Cover Girl has a Lipstick that lasts for hours, no matter what you do! And I do mean hours!!!!!!!!!! It is not chalky at all..and does the job...the thing here, with what I have recommended is to find the correct colour for yourself...stay away from Loreal..its an offshoot of Lancome.....I think it Probably, not sure , but probably gets the 'leftovers' and the colours are NOT as good...theyalso have a metallic taste to them...NOT Revlon under anycircumstances or max factor....sometimes I have found that the 99 cent lipsticks work JUST as well IF ytou get the right colour!
i would suggest stop wearing Avon lipstick. i dunno what type of skin you have, but Avon lipstick never ';wore right'; on my lips; it would crack,feather%26amp;bleed, and always would turn the most gawdawful pinkish coral, regardless of original shade. i tried liner, lip primer, and good the ol concealer/foundation trick like they said worked in the zines; i blotted, dabbed and kissed off excess, to no end; they have these lipstick pencils, kinda looks like liner, but fatter, like eyeshadow pencils; you should find them close together. they stay alright, better than the waxy lipsticks. or, you could just line%26amp;fill in lips with liner, then apply carmex(pat gently, don't smear).

Well everytime I've bought something from Avon, it's been cheap quality. I would go with a cheap brand from Walmart, like CoverGirl and just buy a lip gloss to go over your lipstick or even replace the lipstick with the lipgloss of the same color.
My sister sells Avon and I must say I love the Mark lipglosses. I gave up lipsticks 'cause it gave me the same problem no matter how much lip balm or how moisturizing the lipstick. Lip glosses w/color help keep your lips moist and shiny with some color and your lips are just always more soft and supple- it beats any lip balms or chap sticks. Try Avon's (Mark) lip juice - they're awsome and best of all they don't taste nasty. Oh the little ones that click on are good too plus they are minty so they feel good on your lips.

I want a very matte nude lipstick that I can pair with a smokey eye but I can't seem to find one that is shimmer-free. I don't want any glitter or anything, I just want a totally nude lipstick.

Concealer sticks don't work quite like a lipstick, I've tried them several different times and they never last longer than a couple minutes.

It's so great! It's a loss, but it stays in place, plus it's a beautiful pink color. It has a bit of shimmer/pearliness to it though. It gives me that something extra that just looks really amazing, it makes me lips look radiant but not glittery and silly. I love it.

Without a doubt, Maybelline Superstay is by far the best I've ever tried(and I've tried many). It has two ends, one being the color, which is like a dye, and the other is a balm for setting and gloss. Even after 12 hrs. and 3 meals, you'll still need make-up remover to get it completely off. BTW, 2 applications of color before the gloss is an extra measure of sustainability.Does anyone know of a good brand of ';stayon'; lipstick?

Lipsticks look different on different people and under different lights. You need to experiment with naturals and pinks. I didn't watch the video. But from what it sounds like, it might be a lipstain like Benetint with some chapstick and/or blotted lipgloss.

As for the skin, you have to first take care of it from the inside - drink water, plenty of sleep, eat healthy, get your vitamins and use SPF.

Then find a good foundation and concealer which would work for your skin type and tone.

Contouring and highlighting is very important.

Just search through Youtube videos for ';Flawless makeup'; or ';Dewy Foundation';, or something similar :)

MAC. I've used their products for years, and love them. They have a matte finish so they stay ALL day. I wore a red lipstick yesterday and it didn't come off even after drinking and eating. Be careful though because ALL lipsticks that claim to stay on all day can be drying. So put some moisturizing conditioner on them prior to wearing lipstick. :)

MAC pro- long wears, they are a bit pricey at 20 dollars but they last all day, through everything ! They give a glossy finish that never wears off as well, i highly suggest them. (warning: they may tend to dry out your lips so i suggest using a lip conditioner or chap stick before and after using this product)

Almay is the 2 step, drying gloss then a glossy top coat, but they claim to have added moisture. I personally prefer L'Oreal's Infallible line, they have the 2 step glosses, 2 step stick, and a gloss. The stick is my favorite, easily confused with the 2 step gloss because it's the same packaging. The gloss by itself stays on great, and doesn't dry your lips either, but it's kinda sticky and annoying.
have you tried using a lip mosturizer that is made for preping lips. I have had good luck with that.

Otherwise gloss seems to work better for me

I use Wet and Wild lipsticks the most altho the colors might not look good on all skin tones, Wild and Crazy lipsticks are true from the tube. Sinful Colors has good lipgloss, the colors stay true from the tube to skin.

MAC - Lipsticks and lipglass both smell like vanilla.

Urban Decay - Lip gunks (gloss) are all different scents %26amp; very yummy! My fave is Big Bang which smells like Cinnamon. Other scents include cherry cola (Kiss), apple (Gash), mandarin orange (Midnight Cowboy), and many others.

Lola - Lip gloss smells like mint.

Lancome - Juicy tubes come in different scents.

I use Neutrogena and it works really well. Lipstick dries out lips. Let me tell you how I put on lipstick:

1. Apply chapstick (I find the ones using cocoa butter work best) or vaseline.

2. Apply lipliner.

3. Apply the Neutrogena lipstick.

4. Blot with a single ply of tissue.

5. Apply more Neutrogena lipstick.

6. Blot again with single ply of tissue.

7. Apply vaseline on top (only do this if you want a glossy look).

This method ensures that you have a thin layer of lipstick on so that it won't dry out your lips, but it also helps the lipstick last.

Make sure that the brand of lip stick doesn't have mineral oil in it, if it does it will make your chapped lips seems worse because it will dry up and peel off. Buy one with coconut oil or pretty much any other oil.

Lipstick is a complicated part of makeup, because it's so hard to find the right color. If you have pale skin, and blonde hair, I would wear a pale pink lipstick, or a natural pink/tan color.

You might want to try health-food stores that sell all organic lip products (like Whole Foods, etcetera). Organic certification is usually overseen by various certification bodies, and vegans and vegetarians usually want to check the ingredients - so those brands tend to be more forthcoming about the ingredients. I also like Body Shop products, since those have ingredient listings as well.

Of course, we can't be 100% of any product.

hmm well I went and tried a whole bunch of lipsticks and lipglosses in the mall the other day (all were good brands) and non of them lasted more than 10 mins! then i found mac and it lasts forever! hours. and also Avon lipsticks last a long time too

Try Estee Lauder Rouge Crystal. They have a really nice natural, but still flirty color called Tiramisu. It works well with cool and warm complextions, and compliments light skin tones. Maybe you should try getting a tan. Then there will be a bigger selection for you. If you do choose to get a tan, don't get a real dark one maybe a medium tan.
Ok, the Gwen Stefani look is out. A pale pearly pink might work or a gentle beige for a natural look, like you said. Pair with glossy clear lip shine and blush.

Mary Kay has a color called Paradise Pink that is really pretty...very light pink. It looks terrific paired with Pink Diamonds lip gloss. Sheer Blush also looks great with Pink Diamonds.

As one person above me suggested, lipglosses and tinted chapsticks are the way to go if you want minimal color. I personally don't like glosses as much now because I don't like the stickyness of it. I would suggest going to a MAC counter to look for lippies -- with the huge array of lipsticks they have, I'm sure you'll find one that suits you! If you don't want a strong-colored lipstick, try going for the Lustre or Glaze formulas. Maybe you can try Bobbi Brown too, since they're known for their natural makeup (but I've read reviews saying their lipsticks aren't as good, idk, you should try it for yourself before judging!). As for blush, I'll say Shu Uemura's Glow On Brush is great -- very sheer, natural looking colors, which would look great on your fair skin. Good luck! Use lip gloss, not lip stick, or tinted chap stick. It keeps away the harsh color, and looks more natural (and shiny, in the case of lip gloss). Try some of the lower-quality brands like Rimmel or Mary-Kate and Ashley. They work just as well, but don't have as strong of pigments, so the color doesn't show up as much. Also, Claire's brand make up is more subtle (they design it keeping little kids in mind), and if you already have a pink undertone in your cheeks, try just rubbing a lotion on them to keep your complexion soft, and using shimmer or glow powder to give a healthy shine.

Red seems to be a winner, and if you have ever seen a picture of Marylin Monroe, you will know EXACTLY what I'm talking about. Red lipstick with a fair complexion seems to ooze that non chalant rarity and elgance... so give it a go!

Remember, all reds were NOT created equally!

For a fair complexion, cool reds are reccomended. I know that sounds kinda weird, but this is where a lot of women make a vital mistake! 'Cool' reds are blue-based such as cranberry or wine, and suit women with rosier undertones. 'Warm' reds are most suited to tan undertones.

If you're skin has undertones of pink,(as you described) violet or blue, it is best to choose make up with similar undertones. Warm undertones ie yellow, are not flattering and cause the washed out look.

Narrow down your search! Here are some more defined descriptions i found on a website:

For dark beige and bronze skin:

- a deep cool red lipstick with a burgundy tone is perfect for you.

For ivory and light beige:

- I recommend a cool true red. However, if you have a very fair complexion, look for a red with a pink tint to it.

For pale skin %26amp; red hair:

- Very pale with freckles, and burns easily you have pink (WARM)undertones.

- choose terracotta reds or deep brick reds which complement skin and hair. Avoid: blue reds.

Medium skin, mid-brown hair:

- choose COOL reds such as berry reds or deep raspberry. Avoid: tomato reds.

Fair skin, blonde to brown hair:

- you have mostly pink undertones. - try blue-red lipsticks as these make skin appear creamier. Avoid: terracotta reds.

Olive skin, brown hair:

- Go for tomato reds or deep burgundies to make skin look brighter. Avoid: blue-reds.

Try to keep your blush and eye shadow to a minimum, as you don't want to end up looking like a drag queen!

Lise Waltier is a good idea for fair complexions, but i suppose it depend on your opinion and a bit of trial and error... good luck!
