red lipstick is formal, so don't use it as an everyday option. i find red lipstick always looks best with dark eyes, nothing to out there or over the top but just a small amount of liquid eyeliner on the top eyelid and some mascara if you need it.
invest in a good quality lipstick and chose a shade that suits you, try not to go for something that is a combination of pink and red, they can look cheap. Revlon have some really good shades of red lipstick. Its always best to have white teeth because the contrasts of the red can bring out any yellow tonesHow to wear red lipstick without looking cheap?
keep the rest of your makeup very bare. if you have to wear something on your eyes, wear a line of liquid eyeliner on your upper eyelid and extend to a small catflick on the end. you could also try a light brown eyeshadow if you really wanted some eyeshadow.
you wont usually need blush when you wear red lipstick because the redness of the lips gives your face all the color it needs. skin should be flawless because red lips can bring out skin blemishes and any imperfections.
also, try to get a blue-based red rather than an orange-based red (if youre not sure, any assistant at a makeup counter will help you choose). orange-based reds will make your teeth look yellow and again they bring attention to any kind of blemish on your face. blue-based reds compliment your skin tone, and the shades are usually richer and easier to wear.
1. Choose the right red lipstick for you. There are numerous red lipsticks available. Figure out which type of red goes best with your complexion, an orangey red, pink-red, maroon-red, etc. If you need help, go to your local department store's cosmetics counter and have a make-up artist help assist you. On your own, use the samples and test the color on the back of your hand and determine which shade of red looks best against your skin.
2Start with a moisturizing lip balm and lipstick primer and apply as little lip product as possible.
3Use a red lip stain rather than a cream lipstick. Don't have any lip stain? Apply lip balm to moisturize your lips then line and color in your lips with a red colored lip pencil. Apply a coat of gloss over top and you are ready to go!
4Blot excess lip color with a tissue. Fold a tissue in half, place between lips and gently press your lips down, then slide the tissue out.
5After applying lipstick, put your finger in your mouth and close your lips over it. Then slowly pull it out. This will prevent lipstick from getting on your teeth.
First, don't wear it with a outfit that is too casual. The best time to wear red lipstick is when you are going to a formal event, and you are in a nice, subtle dress, but if you are wearing a skirt with a tucked in blouse to the mall, that would be fine to wear red lipstick.
And second, DON'T wear red lipstick with dramatic eye makeup. Since your lips are so out there and bold, you want to tone down with the eye makeup, so just use a few neutral shades, tiny bit of mascara, and a little bit of eyeliner.

Do the rest of your make up first.. Such as the foundation.
Use a concealer stick on your lips. Only dab it on gently.
Make sure its the right type of red, If you are using a BRIGHT BRIGHT red, it is more likely to look Cheap and trashy.
Wear a darker Red. Apply it, then outline it with a Lipliner slightly darker than the lipstick itself. Then apply some more lipstick till satisfied. Press lips into a tissue or dab a cotton bud onto lips to get rid of shine. the shine can look Cheap so dabbing it slightly is good, Plus makes it last longer. Good Luck. Make sure eye make up is done well too, Black eyeliner with black mascara will contrast with the Lips, and look really good. Wear a shimmery eye shadow. ^_^
Oooof ok...it's all about tone. As you probs know, in one color there are many shades...there's red but within, there is; candy apple red, fire engine red, strawberry, bright red, red-orange, etc...I would say go to a makeup counter and just try them all out...also what color lipstick do you wear mostly? Do you like more pink shades? tan shades? orange based shades? You have to work with your skin tone on red, as well as your hair color and eye color...red is a VERY hard color to wear on the lips but if you get the right shade, you will look gorgeous, no doubt!
Ooooh! also, make sure to get some lip liner with it, because red is so dramatic, you don't want it slipping and smudging..get some lip liner to give it a boundary and you'll be fine!
As far as the rest of your makeup goes, it's always a good idea to only play up one feature, and keep the rest pretty subtle. So if you're going to play up your lips, keep your eyes looking very neutral, or else you'll end up looking like Mimi from the Drew Carey show, who usually has some pretty awful makeup going on.
So if you're going to rock a red lip, maybe try a look like this for your eyes?

A lot of these girls use MAC, but NYX makes drugstore priced dupes for most of these shades that have similar quality.
Hope this helps!
That's a very difficult thing to do. First of all your face has to be able to pull off red in the first place. Secondly you need to find the right shades of makeup for the rest of your face. And third you need to find a red that suits your face.
If your face can't pull it off then don't even bother.
make sure u dont get lipstick that cracks and make sure u dont smudge it. choose a dark shade of red if ur darkskinned n light shade if ur fairer. oh, and dont wear to much eye makeup with a bold lipstick.
also, only put on red lipstick for work or formal visits.
fuschia pink is the colour u want for more casual outings.
Hahaahahha, good question, you might wanna go for a red gloss, they're lighter and make you look less cheap. Unless you use too much and people begin to shield their eyes from the reflection of the sun off your lips. thats bad news.
apply a coat of gloss over it fr a casual look
paint it a lustrous maroon fr any nite out
no eye makeup except a bit of mascara and perhaps a very thin line of eye make up
then wear a deeper shade of red
keep your eye makeup subtle. if you wear it with black eyeliner or heavy shadow, it's like instant floozy.
